Coming from a family of musicians Shirley La Pili has carried this tradition in Canada since her childhood. At the age of 12 she dove into the world of flamenco baile (dance) starting her studies with the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company. In 2006 she rediscovered her love of song through flamenco cante (song) and began teaching herself until the opportunity came to study with various flamenco artists such as Hedi El Moro, Encarna Anillo, Rocío Márquez, and Anna Colom, to name a few. In 2013 she was invited to the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity for a vocal intensive with Richard Armstrong working on vocal exploration and resonance throughout the body.

La Pili has performed at various flamenco festivals in Canada with Toronto group Flamenguitos del Norte at the Jondo Flamenco Festival in Vancouver and the FFLAM Montreal Flamenco Festival in 2012. She has also presented at the Toronto International Flamenco Festival with Los Amigos de Pilar and 蓮華 - RENKA Flamenco, where she sang in Japanese.

Throughout the years she has worked with several dance companies in Toronto including Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company, Los Amigos de Pilar, Compania Carmen Romero & School of Flamenco Dance ArtsArte Flamenco and with various local artists at Tablao Flamenco Toronto.

La Pili's earthy, warm and smooth velvet voice offers a heartfelt delivery of traditional flamenco and bestows grounding in Latin influenced songs.
